Novelli cooks up school funds

CELEBRITY chef Jean Christophe Novelli helped cook up money for charity after he was ‘bought’ by a school pupil.
Catherine Bass, 16, a student at St George’s School in Harpenden, wrote to Novelli asking if she could hire him for a cookery demonstration for £10, and, impressed by her initiative and keen to assist with the school’s charity fundraising, the chef agreed.
The cooking demonstration took place at the school on October 13 with guests paying £40 to watch. There was also a raffle and auction for tickets to attend a one-day cookery class at the Novelli Academy Cookery school in Tea Green, near Luton.
Funds raised by the event will go towards vital building works at the school as part of their Centenary Building Appeal. So far pupils have raised more than £30,000 from the fundraising drive after headteacher Norman Hoare offered each student a loan of £10 and set them the challenge to use and invest the money to raise even more for the building appeal.
