Retreating to a lovely tea room or grand hotel for a spot of afternoon tea during the Christmas season is surely one of the best yuletide treats. We have picked some top places offering afternoon tea with a festive twist in Hertfordshire

Where: Tewin Bury Farm, Welwyn Garden City

When: Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th December, 2.30pm to 4.30pm

Menu: Prosecco or mulled wine upon arrival, finger sandwiches, mince pies, scones with clotted cream and jam and sweet treats of chocolate yule log and battenburg cake – with a cup of tea or coffee.

Extras: Enjoy your afternoon tea to the sound of traditional Christmas carols sung by the Welwyn Garden City Music Society Choir.

When: served throughout December, 2pm to 5pm excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve

Menu: sandwiches of roast turkey and cranberry mayonnaise or hen’s egg with citrus mayonnaise with rocket before cranberry buttermilk scones topped with clotted cream and jam. Sweet treats include clementine meringue pie and pistachio and raspberry Battenberg cakes all with a warming cup of tea or coffee.

When: Available throughout December, 3pm to 5pm excluding Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve

Menu: sandwiches of smoked salmon and turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce will accompany a range of savoury bites including scotch egg, sausage rolls and chipolatas wrapped in bacon. After fluffy scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, there will be mince pies, Christmas cake and more sweet treats. Your choice from the tea menu.

Menu: non alcoholic mulled drink upon arrival, a selection of festive finger sandwiches and cheese and poppy seed straws. Sweet treats include triple-chocolate buche-de-noel, mini caramel meringues, mince pies, panforte with amaretto liqueur and raspberry, rose and pistachio cupcakes.
