Laugh, sing, boo, shout and cheer, it’s the time of year to let it all out at a festive family show. Here are 21 magical pantos and musicals in and around Herts

1. Jack & the Beanstalk, Edmonton

Join Jack and his mum Dame Trott as they face the dastardly Fleshcreep for this giant of a pantomime. Add in the craziness of Simple Simon, the magic of Fairy Deluxe and the cow-ness of Buttercup and you’ve got all the ingredients for a fun-packed show.

2. Jack & the Beanstalk, Cambridge

Tony ‘Is this the way to Amarillo?’ Christie stars alongside Coronation Street’s Stephen Beckett and Bergerac’s Liza Goddard in this production by the team that put on last year’s smash Dick Whittington at the Arts Theatre. They promise songs, laughter, joy and magic.

3. Santa Claus & the Christmas Adventure, Watford

Rudolph is missing and the elves are misbehaving and time is running out to deliver all those presents. With songs, nursery rhymes and a snowfall over the audience, this will guarantee a white Christmas.

4. Jack & the Beanstalk, Stevenage

Join Jack on the Adventure of a lifetime as he bounds up the beanstalk for lots of fee-fi-fo-fun. Starring Cliff Parisi (Call the Midwife), X-Factor’s Melanie Masson, Aiden O’Neill and Stevenage’s favourite dame, Paul Laidlaw. With a stomping giant and all the magic and mayhem of a traditional Christmas extravaganza.

5. Aladdin, Watford

This festive treat features live music, dazzling sets and costumes and, of course, a panda. Aladdin dreams of musical fame but he’s in danger of falling into the clutches of the evil Norwegian pop mogul Sven Gali. Starring Palace pantomime favourites Dame Terence Frisch and Jill McAusland.

6. Rapunzel, Hertford

Rapunzel longs to untangle herself from the hair-curling clutches of the cruel witch, Mother Gothel. But she is trapped in the tower of towers and hasn’t had a haircut in ages - will Rapunzel escape? Whether you are 4 or 104, this family Christmas show is a sure-fire remedy for any bad hair day!

10. Dick Whittington, Harpenden

11. Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs, Bishop’s Stortford

Mirror mirror on the wall, which is the greatest panto of them all? This classic fairytale is brought to life by Phil Dale, who also takes the role of The Henchman. Terel Nugent stars as Muddles and there’s a host of local talent.

From the author of the much-loved children’s book Dear Zoo, Rod Campbell’s Santa is determined to deliver the most fantastic Christmas present to a young girl. But he doesn’t get it right straight away. Campbell’s delightful book is brought to the stage with music, laughs and plenty of audience participation.

15. Snow White, Hoddesdon

Big helpings of laughter with a generous serving of great scenery and costumes, add dwarfs full of mischief and merriment for a pantomime that’s wicked and wonderful. TV presenter Anna Williamson is Snow White.

16. Cinderella, Potters Bar

Left home by the ugliest of sisters, Cinders cannot go to the ball. But with the help of her Fairy Godmother and buffoonery from Buttons, the most exciting night of her life begins. Wyllyotts’ magical extravaganza promises live music, spectacular costumes and sensational music.

17. The Snow Queen, St Albans

This adaption of the Hans Christian Andersen tale sees young Gerda set off on an adventure to search for her best friend Kai who has been captured and imprisoned by the evil Snow Queen. But Gerda needs help from the audience. A fairytale treat.

18. Narnia the Musical, Welwyn GC

This musical performance of the first story in The Chronicles of Narnia brings to life an enchanted world ruled by the lion king Aslan. Follow the children as they venture through the wardrobe into a magical kingdom with creatures and spirits both good and evil.

19. Peter Pan, Barnet
