Christmas light switch-on events in Hertfordshire

With a hot cup of mulled wine in hand, head to your local Christmas light switch-on event. We have picked some of the best in Herts

Where: Hemel Hempstead, Marlowes

When: Sunday 26th November, 12pm to 5.40pm

Highlights: street entertainment, music, Father Christmas, fireworks when the lights are switched on. Website

Where: St Albans, Taxi Rank Stage on St Peters Street, Clock Tower on Hight Street and Christmas Market in Vintry Garden at St Albans Cathedral

When: Sunday 26th November, 12pm to 6pm

Highlights: music, dance and appearances from panto stars will take place throughout the day, see timetable online for full details. This event will kick off the St Albans Christmas Market. Website

Where: Harpenden, Southdown

When: Friday 1st December, 5pm to 6.30pm

Highlights: Carol singing will start at 5.30pm; lights switch on at 6pm; dancing will take place from 6.15pm; carol singing resumes at 6.30pm. There will also be a Santa’s grotto, fairground rides and market stalls. Website

Where: Berkhamsted, High Street

When: Sunday 26th November, 3.30pm to 6.pm

Highlights: festive stalls selling mulled wine and mince pies, Mrs Claus and her Elves will be in the Civic Centre for children to write messages to Father Christmas. Website

Where: Stevenage, Town Square

When: Thursday 30th November, 4pm to 6.30pm

Highlights: live music, stalls, rides, food, face painting, fireworks finale, late-night shopping. Website

Where: Hitchin, Market Square

When: Friday 24th November, 4pm to 8pm

Highlights: food stalls from 4pm, live music until 6.15pm when the lights will be switched on. Website

Where: Letchworth, Leys Square

When: Saturday 25th Novemer, 12pm to 7pm

Highlights: Santa’s grotto, Christmas trail, street food, Christmas market, fun fair, music and live entertainment. Website

Where: Knebworth, Knebworth Parish Church

When: Friday 1st December, 5pm to 7.30pm

Highlights: wooden huts outside will be selling festive goods. There will be a beer tent and prosecco van for the adults and a carousel, bouncy castle, roasted chestnuts and candy floss for children. Website
