Christmas isn’t complete without a trip to a festive fair. From German-style food stalls to vintage fetes, Hertfordshire’s Christmas markets have it all
St Albans Christmas Market
St Albans holds one of the oldest regular Christmas markets in the UK, dating back to the 9th century. Held in the beautiful Abbey Cathedral, the German-inspired market offers food, drink and plenty of arts and crafts. Finish off with a pint at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks, the oldest pub in Britain, only a short walk away.

Hatfield House Frost Fair
Another Christmas Fair in Hatfield but this time, it’s for the whole weekend. The Frost Fair offers arts and crafts, morning coffee, lunches and afternoon teas. And the legend himself – Father Christmas – will be there too! The Fair is open from 10am until 5pm every day and tickets are £8 for adults, or free for accompanied children aged 15 and under. Come and enjoy gifts from over 200 exhibitors at this festive occasion.

Harpenden Christmas Carnival
The Harpenden Christmas Carnival is back with its tenth anniversary event. With farmers’ markets, charity stalls and a spectacular fun fair, there’s lots to do for all the family. Santa will be there from 12.30pm in his grotto for all the kids to visit. There will also be staged entertainment throughout the day, and the festivities will wrap up with the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On at 5pm.

Redbourn Christmas Market
Held on Redbourn High Street, this year’s German-inspired market will recreate a classic village Christmas market with a wide range of stalls. From cakes, jewellery and books to toys and gifts, you’ll be sure to find a present for everyone. There will also be lots of entertainment from choirs, dancers and musicians as well as yummy food stalls and a very special visit from Father Christmas.

Leverstock Green Winter Fayre and Christmas Light Switch On
This popular fayre is back and is hosting a wide variety of stalls. You can look forward to hunting for the perfect gifts with cakes, hand-made gifts and jewellery for sale. The annual Christmas lights switch-on will be at the end of the fayre, but with plenty of stalls to choose from and carol singers performing, this is a perfect excursion for the family.
This year’s fayre will be held at Leverstock Green Village Hall on Saturday 12th November starting from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. For further information visit the website.
Ashridge Estate Christmas Mini-Markets
Ashridge festivities are back again, this year with three weekends of mini-markets where you can sample local food and gifts to make your Christmas that bit more special. Each day will feature a different set of four stalls; there will be a changing variety of delectable delights and gorgeous gifts.

Knebworth Christmas Fair
Find Christmas gift inspiration at Knebworth Christmas Fair, with everything from clothing and jewellery to sweet treats and local produce, there will be something for every taste. There is even the chance to meet some reindeer! Say hi to Rudolph and co, visit Santa’s grotto, and children can receive a special present too.

Pitch & Eat Christmas Street Food Festival at New Watford Market
Pitch & Eat does exactly what it says on the tin. There will be lots of pop up street food stalls to browse along with fabulous festive live music and lots of drinks flowing. Pop-ups include a Prosecco bar, real ale bar and lots of food from around the world.
There are two Pitch & Eat Christmas Street Food Festivals happening in Herts this year, Hemel Old Town on 10th December, 1pm – 7pm and New Watford Market on 14th December 5pm – 9pm.
Vintage, Antiques & Collectors’ Market, Hatfield House
Located in the Stable Yard at the grand stately home Hatfield House is the Stable Yard Market Weekend that takes place on the third weekend of each month. Although not specifically Christmas themed, there will be lots of unique vintage and antique pieces that are sure to make wonderful Christmas gifts. Stalls will be selling everything from furniture to postcards and prints.
17th December, 10am – 5pm
Located at the beautiful Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross is the Lee Valley Park Christmas Market. If you are looking for a unique gift for a loved one, you are sure to find something a bit different at one of the many stalls. There will also be food stands selling festive goodies to nibble while you wander around browsing toys, decorations and much more. There will also be entertainment creating a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Give the kids a day they won’t forget because Santa will be paying a visit too (£5 charge per child).
16th December, 7pm – 11pm, 17th and 18th December, 12pm – 8pm. Santa will visit 17th and 18th, 12pm – 7pm.
The Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre is back this year with stalls spilling with festive goodies along North Street, Potter Street and South Street. There will be yuletide cheer abound as Christmas music flows through the streets and eager browsers spot that perfect gift from the many stalls. Entertainment will include reindeers to see, magicians, a fun fair and much more.
