Hatfield House

Proud HEADLINE sponsors & awards venue

Hatfield House is a fine Jacobean house, built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and is now home to the 7th Marquess and Marchioness of Salisbury and their family. The estate has been in the Cecil family for 400 years and is now open for the summer season for you to enjoy the historical mementos collected over centuries by the Cecil family, in company with renowned textiles, furniture and works of art. The iconic Rainbow portrait of Queen Elizabeth I should not be missed! You can also discover the story below stairs, in the recently restored kitchen, as the staff prepared for Queen Victoria’s visit and banquet in 1846.

Picture perfect gardens dating from the early 17th century, a 25-acre farm and a visit to the exclusive range of Stable Yard shops completes a perfect day out, together with morning coffee or light lunch in the Coach House Restaurant.

Alongside the Jacobean Hatfield House, you will find the original palace of Hatfield (below). Built in 1485, it was originally owned by King Henry VIII who used it as a home for his children, Edward, Elizabeth and Mary. It was while living in the Old Palace, in 1558, that Elizabeth learned of her accession to the throne.

The Old Palace is now used as a venue (above) for beautiful weddings, spectacular gala dinners and lavish lunches and will provide the setting for the Hertfordshire Life Food and Drink Awards 2017.

Accommodating up to 300 for a conference, networking event or drinks reception, 270 for lunch or dinner and 200 for a dinner dance, the Old Palace with its knot garden and raised lawn provides a stunning venue whatever the occasion. In contrast to the ancient palace, there is the Riding School, with its glass roof and mezzanine level, for meetings, conference and team building events requiring a more contemporary feel.

The team at Hatfield House Hospitality is passionate about delivering exceptional quality food and service fit for royalty so you can be assured that whatever the occasion guests will leave with the best of memories. The team at Hatfield House is proud to be hosting the Hertfordshire Food and Drink Awards 2017 awards lunch on July 24 and look forward to welcoming finalists and guests to the grandeur of the Old Palace to experience dining like a king or queen.

Hatfield House is open to visitors Wednesday to Sunday 11am-5pm (last entry 4pm) with the Coach House Restaurant and Stable Yard shops open Tuesday to Sunday 10am-5.30pm. The Old Palace and Riding School can be hired for events all year round. Car parking is free of charge.

The Cheese Plate

Proud sponsors of Chef of the Year

With over 200 cheeses to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice at the The Cheese Plate. Whether you’re looking for that one special cheese or to create the perfect cheeseboard for a dinner party, this specialist in Buntingford is the place to visit.

The lovely High Street shop was founded in 2011 by award-winning cheesemonger Toby Archer, whose knowledge and palate led to his selection in 2012 as a judge at the World Cheese Awards, held annually at the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC, Birmingham. He and his fellow judges had the task of tasting more than 4,500 cheeses before selecting a winner. No small task.

The following year Toby entered the Big Cheese Challenge and was awarded Le Gruyere AOP ‘Highly commended’ in both the cheesemonger and cheese counter categories at the World Cheese Awards, the first cheese business in Hertfordshire to receive these.

Confident in the popularity of his produce, Toby hosts cheese dinners and cheese and wine tasting evenings, which have become the talk of the town and beyond.

‘It’s a fabulous night’s entertainment – several delicious cheeses, divine wine, and while indulging you get to learn about the different cheeses, where they originate and what to serve them with,’ Toby explained.

The Cheese Plate now offers a bespoke service designing unique wedding cheese cakes. ‘Brides and grooms choose them because they want something a bit different or because they just love cheese!’ Toby said.

Another new development is cheese slates – an ingenious alternative to a traditional buffet or dinner party dessert. These simple show-stoppers are guaranteed to get guests talking and offer a unique and tantalising experience.

The Cheese Plate offers an extensive range of both British and continental cheeses, specialising in artisan produce. And anything is possible in its world of cheese, with no requirement too big or small, so do visit or get in touch.

Toby said ‘We at The Cheese Plate are delighted to be the sponsor of Chef of the Year in the Hertfordshire Life Food and Drink Awards 2017 and proud to be associated with this prestigious event where the county’s most creative and skilful chefs can show off their culinary expertise.’

KDW Financial Planning

Proud sponsors of Food/Drink Hero of the Year

KDW are financial planners, renowned for our excellent customer service and valued client relationships.

As independent financial advisers, we are not tied to any particular product or company, which means that we access the entire financial market to find a solution that will meet our client’s financial requirements. Any advice we offer our clients is unbiased and truly independent.

Ken Wright established KDW in 1978 with the simple objective of providing independent financial advice that clients could trust. This has continued to be integral to the way in which we operate; our proven track record of looking after generations of families, advising them from their first mortgage and life assurance policy to their pension and inheritance tax planning, is a testament to our success.

Since our beginnings almost 40 years ago the business has grown significantly; we now have alongside our St Albans head office, offices in London, Cambridge and Cheltenham. The growth of the business has seen our team evolve from just three staff members to over 35, all of whom are experts in their field.

Our advisers work in the financial markets every day and therefore understand issues such as investment risk or the best deals on the market for mortgages. At KDW we advise on the following services: pensions, investments, mortgages, assurance, tax planning and commercial finance.

We work with hundreds of individuals and businesses who have varying needs, from mortgage advice through to complex investment strategies. For every financial requirement, KDW has a solution that will work for you.

The team at KDW are big fans of food and love trying out local restaurants and produce so it was a natural fit for us to get involved in the Hertfordshire Life Food and Drink Awards. We are really looking forwarding to celebrating the best that Hertfordshire has to offer.

MoneyHill Interiors

Proud sponsors of Restaurant of the Year

The Moneyhill philosophy is to create the most beautiful rooms in your house that reflect the way you live, be it using English handcrafted furniture or sleek state-of-the-art German engineered cabinets.

With 70 per cent of new business coming from client recommendations, our aim is simple – a happy client at the end of a project. We appreciate that it’s not easy having major works done, from extensions to the kitchen and we try to minimise the upheaval by meticulously planning a project from installation to completion.

We work primarily with three major furniture suppliers. Davonport furniture is manufactured in Colchester, producing the very best of English design and craftsmanship. We encourage clients to visit the workshop, to feel and touch their furniture in production, and experience for themselves the care taken. Using Davonport we are able to create kitchens, utility rooms, bedrooms, studies, cinema rooms and media pieces in a variety of woods, painted finishes and styles to suit most houses.

Our German furniture comes from Rational and Pronorm, both of which are very capable manufacturers. Their factories endorse the up-to-the-minute components and finishes that we take for granted in this business – the latest lacquering techniques, new materials to market, and endless colours and finishes with very robust cabinets and huge pan drawers for example that have been strenuously tested not only for quality but for weight and durability.

Our appliance choice is vast, we do however specialise in Wolf and Sub Zero appliances from the USA – the ultimate in top-end quality and size. We are a Miele partner, displaying a comprehensive range of its legendary cooking, refrigeration, extraction and laundry products. We offer V-Zug appliances from Switzerland and Quooker boiling taps from Holland – a must in every new kitchen. We have a working Aga on display in the showroom and clients are welcome to attend demonstrations and indeed to cook themselves on this traditional English appliance. The list is long, but we are always happy to research or procure a specific product.

Whatever the brie - a house, castle, cottage or apartment our aim is to maximise space and utilise today’s technology. We produce stunning visual drawings and full CAD plans for builders, and work happily alongside architects and planning authorities to ensure the space we use is as efficient as possible.

Our team of designers is very experienced and happy to meet clients in the showroom or at home, and are happy to share the extensive portfolio of projects completed over the past 11 years.

Showroom opening times: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm. Other times by appointment.
