Children in Barnet are being invited to show their mother's how much they care in a special Mother's Day Portrait competition organised by the Spires Shopping Centre.

Children in Barnet are being invited to show their mother's how much they care in a special Mother's Day Portrait competition organised by the Spires Shopping Centre.

More than 30 local schools have been sent Mother's Day Schools Packs, Poster and Entry Forms and have been asked to invite budding Picassos, Van Goghs and Cezannes to draw a portrait of their mother in paint, crayons, chalk, felt tips or even montage.

From entries received, two winners will be chosen - one from the 7-9 age group and one from the 10-12 age group. The winning artists will each receive a prize for themselves, a prize for their mother and have their winning portrait framed as a very special and personal gift to give to their Mother on Mothering Sunday.

We know there are some very talented budding artists in the area and we look forward to seeing their pieces of artwork, says Graham Trotman, Manager of the Spires Shopping Centre. We plan to display the winning entries in the Centre - a very public display of affection - and place some in a virtual art gallery on our web site.

Entries are available for all children in the listed ages in the area. So if you want to take part please collect an entry form from the Centre Management Office or download an entry form from www.thespiresbarnet.co.uk. The closing date of entries is Wednesday, February 22, 2012.
