TWO of Hertfordshires veteran broadcasters, film critic Barry Norman CBE and former BBC newsreader Richard Whitmore, are joining forces at the Hitchin Arts Festival.
The duo joined six other BBC presenters for the Morecambe and Wise Christmas 1977 show when, dressed as sailors, they performed an unforgettable acrobatic version of Nothing like a Dame! from South Pacific.
An Evening with Barry Norman CBE is a special charity show at The Queen Mother Theatre in Hitchin on July 18 but Barry will be joined on stage for part of the show by Richard so the pair can talk about their experiences with Eric and Ernie.
Richard, QMTs chairman, says, The evening is primarily Barrys. However, when we met to discuss the format we both realised that, as our appearance with the great Morecambe and Wise still attracts questions from audiences, it would be fun to share the stage to recall that special moment in our careers.
Both performers are waiving their fees to boost the proceeds which will go towards the Hitchin theatres new Youth Wing.
