Groundwork Hertfordshire is encouraging the county's residents to volunteer during National Volunteer Week, June 1-7.

Groundwork Hertfordshire explains why you should get involved with the organisation.

Whether youre looking to gain work experience and broaden your horizons, fulfill your passion in environmental issues or simply want to give a few hours a week to a cause that benefits your community, environmental charity Groundwork Hertfordshire is the organisation that can help you to do something special. And what better time to start than during NationalVolunteer Week; June 1-7, 2010.

Groundwork regularly work with volunteers, and getting involved in one ofour projects could put you in a strong position to obtain full-time work

in fact, many of our existing staff began their careers with us as volunteers. From administrative to practical hands-on roles we can offer something to suit everyone.

Current opportunities

GreenAiders is one of Groundworks current volunteering projects, taking place in the boroughs of Dacorum and Watford. GreenAiders sees groups of volunteers, supervised by Groundwork staff, helping vulnerable and elderly people with the upkeep of their gardens.

This project has already proven to be a fantastic success for garden owners and volunteers alike. Ann, a regular volunteer, says, I enjoy making a difference, seeing the transformation and making the residents happy.

If you would like volunteer with GreenAiders, please contact Ellie Turner on 01707 255182 or email eleanor.turner@groundwork.org.uk

We are also looking for a volunteer to assist during our childrens activities project: The Really Wild Adventure Playscheme! This project is taking place during the half term week (June 1-4) in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield. You will need bags of enthusiasm, enjoy working with children and be able to interact with the environment to encourage learning.

If you are interested in finding out more about this opportunity, please contact Charlotte Ball on 01707 255176 oremail charlotte.ball@groundwork.org.uk

Groundwork also has a wealth of experience organising tailored volunteering days for businesses based all over the county, including T-mobile, Glaxo Smith Kline, Veolia Water and Bank Machine. We aim to create a day which encourages volunteers to take ownership and management of the project as well as learning new landscaping and horticultural skills.
