A blend of advice sessions, shopping discounts and catwalk shows, St Albans Fashion Week from October 26-31 brings the community together for a week of fashion treats. The pinnacle of the week is the catwalk show in St Albans Cathedral – so popular that this year there will be two, featuring more than 60 retailers whose models will stomp the longest catwalk in the country in front of a 1,000-strong audience.

Julia Yule, fashion and beauty editor at Glamour magazine, said of last year’s show, ‘I couldn’t believe how enormous a production the Cathedral Catwalk Show was. It was phenomenally well put together and I thoroughly enjoyed it.’

Founded by Ellena Ophira, Hertfordshire Life fashion columnist and St Albans entrepreneur, St Albans Fashion Week has grown into a highlight of the city’s calendar. Here is Ophira’s pick of this year’s events. For full listings, pick up a brochure at participating retailers or go to where you can also book tickets for the events.

Trendy lunch with
Caroline Jones

Mon 26, 2-4pm Brasserie Blanc, Verulam Road

Caroline Jones is a lady with a mission – to raise £36,000 for Cancer Research UK in memory of her mother. In her campaign, Knicker Model’s Own, Jones is wearing an outfit curated solely from garments borrowed from Cancer Research charity shops every day for a year. Join her for lunch at Brasserie Blanc as she shows how to shop savvy and get stylish in charity-shop couture.

Tickets at £20 include two courses, a glass of sparkling wine and styling masterclass. All profits go to the charity.

The gentleman’s collection

Tues 27, 7-9pm, D Copperfield, Chequer Street

One for the gents. Award-winning retailers come together to showcase the latest in men’s styling and grooming. There will be a sartorial session by D Copperfield, Wharton Goldsmith will exhibit the latest watches including Breitling, TW Steel and Raymond Weil, and the Alternative Barbering Co will offer grooming tips. Plus, Tomoka Spirits Boutique will have samples of whiskies from around the world. Tickets include a drink and ‘man snacks’. All profits go to the fashion week charity, Cancer Research.

Welcome to Graceland

Wed 28, 7-9pm Poggenpohl Showroom, London Road

Celebrity fashion stylist and TV personality Grace Woodward welcomes guests to peruse pieces from her collection of pre-loved high fashion garments hot off the rails of her new boutique in Hitchin, Graceland. She will show how to style key pieces as well as giving guests the opportunity to buy garments by Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Chanel and many more at a fraction of their original prices. SAFW sponsors the Skin to Love Clinic and Bare Minerals will also be on hand with beauty tips and demos.

Cathedral Catwalk Show

Thurs 29 & Fri 30 from 7pm,
St Albans Cathedral

The nave of St Albans Cathedral will be transformed into the longest catwalk in the country highlighting the best design St Albans has to offer as international brands and independent boutiques showcase the latest autumn and winter looks and bridal fashion. Learn about this season’s must-haves in the Trend Show finale and, new to SAFW this year, get the looks hot off the runway at the Shop the Catwalk experience after the shows. Due to demand, there are two shows this year, each one made up of different retailers.
