Be moved to tears, enjoy a tense thriller or curl up with romantic fiction as Geraldine Blount looks at the latest offerings from Hertfordshire writers

Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Linda Pottinger from Northchurch bares her soul in this memoir that follows her life, culminating in the devastating death of her husband from cancer just over a year ago. She has found that the process of writing about her experiences has been amazingly cathartic and healing and hopes she can offer some hope and inspiration to others who have endured the loss of a loved one.
For Linda, her husband Richard was her best friend, as well as being her partner for 11 years and she describes him as ‘a truly wonderful person who was loved by all.’ When he retired from the police force in 1998 so did she so that they could travel and spend time together, so they had several very happy years together.
The book is well-written especially for an amateur and you may need a box of tissues while you read it.

The strength of their relationships are tested when the theatre closes down and they go their separate ways. But they continue to see each other and support each other. The story follows their lives, loves and difficulties and this is a heart-warming and uplifting read for fans of this genre of writing.

The Kammersee Affair
John Holt hails originally from Bishop’s Stortford and has begun his writing career with this debut novel. It is a gripping read that spans two decades, beginning at the end of World War II when an American pathfinder squadron enter Austria as the Germans are retreating. They suspect that a hidden military base by Lake Kammersee has been used to conceal Nazi gold bars in the wave of their expected defeat. But they are not the only ones with sights on the gold and a scheming SS officer who has also discovered this hidden cache plans to return for it and will go to any lengths to do so. Fast forwarding ten years, three young men go in search of the fabled missing Nazi millions and begin to search for it in the lake.
If you like tense thrillers this is a good read that will keep you turning the pages.
