CELEBRITY chef Jean Christophe Novelli helped cook up money for charity after he was 'bought' by a school pupil.
Catherine Bass, 16, a student at St George's School in Harpenden, wrote to Novelli asking if she could hire him for a cookery demonstration for 10, and, impressed by her initiative and keen to assist with the school's charity fundraising, the chef agreed.
The cooking demonstration took place at the school on October 13 with guests paying 40 to watch. There was also a raffle and auction for tickets to attend a one-day cookery class at the Novelli Academy Cookery school in Tea Green, near Luton.
Funds raised by the event will go towards vital building works at the school as part of their Centenary Building Appeal. So far pupils have raised more than 30,000 from the fundraising drive after headteacher Norman Hoare offered each student a loan of 10 and set them the challenge to use and invest the money to raise even more for the building appeal.
