Sucker Punch, St Albans
Escape to an alternate reality and head to Sucker Punch on St George Street in St Albans, the ‘steam punk’ cocktail bar that embodies the world of Victoriana meets sci-fi, where steam-powered technology prevails. Peruse the vintage-style menu of creative cocktails that reflect this curious steam punk culture. Soak in the atmosphere while sipping on a ‘post-prohibition’ Pink Lady consisting of Gin Lane 1751 London Dry gin, grenadine, raspberries, lemon juice, sugar and egg white.
Bar Bodega, Watford
1920s themed Bar Bodega located along The Parade in Watford oozes coolness. With an emphasis on creating a mature space for over-21s to enjoy drinking in style, there are dark red leather sofas matched with dark wood and of course, elegant cocktails too. Listen to jazz and blues with a fruity Cuban Django in hand (Havana club rum, passion fruit syrup, fresh lime and cranberry juice).
Bar Azita, Harpenden / Hitchin
Emulating the laid back atmosphere of Spanish bars is Bar Azita whose owners were so inspired by their travels in Spain that they decided to open one of their own. Serving simple, delicious plates with Mediterranean influences, this bar also has a great list of cocktails to choose from. Enjoy an (interestingly named) Everything’s Coming Up Millhouse made with homemade spiced rum, Clement Creole Shrubb orange liqueur, rhubarb shrub, fresh lime and spiced syrup.
The Gatsby, Berkhamsted
The Gatsby in Berkhamsted is a sophisticated piano bar located in the art deco cinema The Rex. Channel the glamour of F. Illusion Lounge, Cheshunt
A great, upbeat spot for after work drinks, Illusion Lounge in Cheshunt has a happy hour from 5.30pm until 8pm with a quarter off all drinks! If it’s Friday then it has to be prosecco cocktails all round; try a Kir Royal, with Trevis Prosecco and Crème de Casis.
Sopwell House, St Albans

Classic cocktails are covered along with a few inventive tipples such as the Black Bramble consisting of gin, blackberry liqueur and bubbles with fresh lime and sugar.

The Snug, Hertford / St Albans / Hitchin / Ware
Living up to its name, The Snug is a chain of cosy bars that are both eateries and cocktail bars. In testament to their tasty cocktails, it won the Best Cocktail Menu award at the Hertfordshire Food and Drinks Awards 2015. The extensive menu includes all the classics and many of its own creations along with hard shakes such as Kahlua, vodka and Baileys blended with vanilla ice cream for the Frozen Black Irish.
