HARPENDEN-based Islay Kennedy is celebrating after a sparkling wine she created received a gold award for the second year at the prestigious International Effervescents du Monde Competition.
Islay, director of Vickery Wines, has also defied the odds by securing deals with three major supermarkets, Asda, Morrisons and Tesco, to stock her creation, which she has named Griffith Park.
She studied wine at the Roseworthy College in Adelaide and now works with winemakers in South Australia to blend Griffith Park herself before having it shipped to the UK. She took the gold award for her Australian Sparkling Rose, while the newly launched Sparkling Brut was awarded a silver medal.
