St Albans has said farewell to one of its favourite restaurateurs following the death from cancer of Kate DArcy. She was 37.

An Australian by birth and known for her larger-than-life attitude, she joined forces with fellow Aussie and business partner Ruth Hurren in 2002 to open DArcys restaurant, which quickly established itself on the local scene.

The operation won praise from, among others, the Which? Good Food Guide, which recommended it for its welcoming ambience. Hardens Restaurant Guide reported that DArcys was widely regarded as St Albans best with Antipodean-based cuisine head and shoulders above the oppo.
