Another historic Herts hospitality site has joined the roster of newly-refurbished foodie pubs in the county with the opening of the all-new George of Harpenden by the Mitchell and Butlers group.
Dating from the late 19th century, the prominent High Street red-brick building was a hotel but has had many roles since, including as a pizza bar after its last makeover in 2011. It has now been transformed into a modern space with a Garden Room plus an open kitchen with Josper grill and wood-fired oven producing an all-day menu from coffee and pastries to three-course meals.
Menu specialities, along with grills, burgers and pub favourites, include a mezze plate as a starter and Moroccan spiced cauliflower steak among mains.
