Its full steam ahead at Welwyn Garden City-based The Music Train this autumn. Renowned for providing high quality musical education for babies and pre-schoolers in Hertfordshire and Cornwall, this group has just celebrated its 10thAnniversary.

The company was originally founded 16 years ago in Welwyn Garden City and was known as Tots Tunes. However, in 2001, it was relaunched as The Music Train and has branched out to many other Hertfordshire towns.

The team of teachers, pictured at one of their recent training meetings marked the occasion with a delicious chocolate cake. It was decided to create a Time Line in cake to show when each member of the team climbed on board with The Music Train. Teachers also received a gift token with the value calculated according to how long they had taught for the group.

With a vast array of exciting topics such as Peter and the Wolf, Brass Instruments and Music from around the world, there is always something new to add to the familiar format that the children know and love. As a result, families remain with the groups year after year, bringing successive siblings one family managed nine whole years!

As soon as a teacher joins the group, they receive a whole year of one-to-one specific training in early years musical education along with a comprehensive mentoring scheme, ensuring a high level of professional knowledge.

A feeling of job satisfaction is one of the reasons teachers remain with The Music Train so long, says Andrea Lee, proprietor.

Louise Ray (Welwyn Garden City branch) has been with the organisation for 12 years and Terrie Skulteti (Great Ashby branch) celebrates ten years this month. In fact, on average, each of the eight teachers has clocked more than seven years each!

I always find it amazing to think that many students now aged 20 years, started their musical life with us, says Andrea. Its always exciting coming across ex Music Trainers performing at concerts and taking their music further. I couldnt want for a more rewarding occupation!
