Gardening gifts from Hatfield House Gift Shop

Searching for an original and interesting Christmas present for a gardener? Philippa Pearson has some tempting suggestions for gardening gifts...

The Stable Yard at Hatfield House

Open from 11am to 5.30pm (or dusk) from Tuesday to Sunday right up until 23rd December and with free parking, the Stable Yard at Hatfield House has lots of beautiful shops with gardening and home items. The complex closes just before Christmas then reopens on February 7, 2012.

Hatfield House Gift Shop has a range of pretty vintage-style gardeners mugs and some beautiful but practical oak Wellington Boot Jacks, ideal for removing wellies after gardening. Looking good for the festive season is the Hellebore Christmas Rose from Burston Garden Shop where youll also find boxed Amaryllis sets complete with compost and pot. The Oak Room has a quirky Winter Wonderland Cress Garden and good range of interesting and decorative bird houses and feeders.

Gardening Divas

Gardening Divas, based near Hitchin, have a generous range of online gifts and goodies for women gardeners. They have some lovely items from Navigate, also based in Hertfordshire, who specialise in design for outdoor living: the Tulip & Rose tool basket is complete with secateurs, large trowel, weeding trowel, fork, hand rake and a pair of gardening gloves; the Tulip and Rose folding garden stool has a detachable bag with secateurs, large trowel and weeding hand-rake; for younger gardeners, the Very Hungry Caterpillar garden range and products include a watering can, toolbox and a folding garden stool complete with three little tools and handy
storage space.

Other lovely gift ideas from Gardening Divas include painted trugs from Burgon & Ball, available in three pastel colours, pink, blue or green, a Vegetable Gardener Gift Set featuring a tough waterproof-lined hessian bag complete with pockets holding jute twine, wooden dibber and plant labels and a pretty Celia Birtwell design 5 litre watering can.

Aylett Nurseries

Ayletts beautiful Poinsettias are home-grown at the nursery and come in a variety of sizes and colours from traditional red through to creamy white; some are planted up in festive bowls with a variety of other houseplants. Another plant for Christmas is Hellebore Verboom Beauty, an early variety bred to look superb over the festive season indoors and afterwards planted in the garden. Theres a gift wrapping service available, too. The nursery also stocks more than 40 different colours and styles of Hunter Wellies; I particularly like the floral shoes which are ideal for pottering in the garden. North Orbital Road, St Albans.

Seek And Adore

This website has a wealth of beautiful items hand made by craftspeople from all over the UK, so lots of scope for unique presents. The vine and daisy ceramic plaques by Kit Anderson were initially photos taken in a friends garden then turned into these unusual wall plaques for inside and out. Gillian Lee Smith has created some intricately hand embroidered fragments of nature brooches, inspired by memories and stories and each one is entirely unique. Helen Slaters bee birdfeeder has a lovely glass bee design. Made from slate, metal, wood and enamelled glass, each design is hand enamelled, engraved and fired onto the glass. Designed to be hung outdoors, it has ample space for all kinds of bird seed.

Franchi Seeds Of Italy

Franchi is the oldest family run seed company in the world and their traditional regional varieties come from all areas of Italy, adding to the heritage and tradition of these connoisseurs seeds. Great for stocking fillers for gardeners plus there are lots of other lovely products available like Italian preserving jars and vegetable soap.

Quintessentially English

Quintessentially English have a simply gorgeous range of hand made soap, toiletries and gifts for the home. The English Rose soap gift box includes natural and organic soaps and bath bombs whilst the Summer Blooms and Cottage Garden gift boxes have soaps adorned with pretty flowers. I really like the Gardeners Wellywash Soap made from natural and organic ingredients and ideal for lots of gardening uses as well as wellies, whilst the Gardeners Beeswax Hand Cream is a great natural moisturiser and protective barrier for hard working gardening hands.
