Nick Staton, the man the celebrities call when they want a new home, talks to Hertfordshire Life about Essendon Hall, and why he wants to move there

Nick Staton, the man the celebrities call when they want a new home, is at Essendon Hall just outside the pretty village of Little Berkhampsted in Hertfordshire.

The spectacular turreted building has been converted into true mansion apartments and Staton is a big fan.

'I have told my wife Nikki that when the children leave home I want to move and live here,' he reveals. 'I think its wonderful. These are proper mansion apartments with big elegant rooms, gorgeous fittings and set in the middle of a golf course. In 25 years in this business I have never come across anything like them in north London.'

Its high praise from a property expert who has seen all the top houses right across Hertfordshire and whose client list is a roll call of Whos Who from top celebrities to Premiership footballers.

His own home right now is a large modern family house in Hadley Wood, only the third property he has owned in his life, the first two being new build flats. 'I much prefer selling!' he laughs.

He views estate agency as introducing the right property to the right people and has already sold five of the ten apartments at Essendon Hall to happily matched buyers.

He says, 'You turn into the gates and theres a long sweep of drive to the Hall which is like the approach to Windsor Castle! Who wouldnt love coming home to that?'

Around it are 150 acres of English parkland, a mix of woodland and the tended fairways of the exclusive London and Hatfield Golf Course, with box hedged lawns, walled gardens and mature trees surrounding the Hall itself.

The double oak doors in the castellated tower lead to an elegant entrance and apartments that while all grand are all different.

From The Clevedon, spread over three floors with a terrace off the dining hall with uninterrupted views across rolling countryside at 1.35m to The Belfry, a perfect ground floor space with a private kitchen terrace at 699,000.

All are sanctuaries of luxury and comfort with spacious bathrooms and hand crafted kitchens finished with polished granite surfaces. The Miele appliances include two built under ovens, an inset gas hob, fully integrated dishwasher, built in microwave, separate washing machine and dryer and an American style fridge freezer with an ice maker and chilled water supply.

All are also pre wired for a multi room audio system and home entertainment network.

Its a perfect combination of old style grace and character and modern luxury delivered by the countrys leading architectural building specialists the P J Livesey Group.
