Homes on the Hertfordshire street typically cost £4.4m

A street in Rickmansworth is the second most expensive place to live outside of London. Temple Gardens, in the grounds of Moor Park Golf Club, has homes typically costing £4.4m. The most expensive street outside the capital is Montrose Gardens in Leatherhead, Surrey, where property averages £6.5m. The data was compiled by property website Zoopla for its 2019 Rich List which ranks Britain's most expensive areas in which to buy.

Hertfordshire featured in the list's top 20 most expensive British towns with Radlett at number eight (average price £963,548), Harpenden (£828,402) at 16, Much Hadham (£773,414) at 18 and Welwyn (£761,650) at 19.

Laura Howard, consumer expert at Zoopla, said, 'Ultimately, our Rich List is a fascinating insight, not into how the other half lives, but into how the other one per cent lives'.

A regional analysis of the data shows that 91 per cent of streets with an average property price of £1m and above are found in southern England. There are now 15,484 such streets in Britain, down from 17,289 last year.
