TWO retirement villages in Hertfordshire are among the top three in the UK, according to American website bestretirementdestinations.com


Cedars Village (pictured above) opposite the common in Chorleywood scored 100 per cent in the six qualifying categories to gain the top spot in the country. Castle Village in Berkhamsted came third. Both developments were built by Retirement Villages which was distinguished by having no fewer than six developments in the top ten.


Cedars Village has 149 homes for the over-60s. The apartments are on the upper floors of the Grade II listed mansion at the centre of the development. Bungalows and cottages are grouped in the 22-acre grounds.


Castle Village in Berkhamsted for the over-55s, launched in 2000, is set in the 30-acre grounds of a listed mansion. Resale prices are currently 265,000 to 295,000 at the Chorleywood village and from 235,000 to 295,000 at the Berkhamsted development.
