Celtic Harmony Camp in Brickendon has been forced to cancel its Primitive Skills Festival on August 29 following a fire at the camp.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Iron Age settlement yesterday at 12.48pm and sent crews from Hertford, Hoddesdon and Cheshunt to the scene. The kitchen and the shop were completely destroyed in the blaze that took over an hour to extinguish.

A Bushcraft course for disadvantaged young people was taking place in the woodland and the fire which was in the main part of the settlement was noticed as one of the leaders came out of the woods.

The children participating in the Bushcraft course were immediately escorted safely off-site and the fire brigade was called.
Clare Holt, Education Manager, explains, 'Nobody was in the kitchen when the blaze started and nobody was hurt which is our first concern. Thankfully the Iron Age roundhouses were not damaged, however, the volunteers and staff will not be able to re-build the facility in time for the next big event, the Primitive Skills Festival on August 29.

Local people have already started to book for the festival and I know lots of families were really looking forward to it. Over 600 people visited at the Beltane Festival in May and it is with a heavy heart that we are having to cancel this event.'

Longbow Archery and Bushcraft Courses carry on throughout the summer, for more information go to www.celticharmony.org or tel:01438 718543.
