Villagers acrossHertfordshire county are preparing to showcase their villages for the judges in the Hertfordshire Village of the Year Competition.
Organised by CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) Hertfordshire, the competition is sponsored by Hertfordshire Community Foundation, in association with Hertfordshire County Council and North Herts District Council.
All the villages entering the competition -Ashwell, Cottered, the Hormeads, Hunsdon, Knebworth, Lemsford, Redbourn and Woolmer Green-will receive a visit from a team of three judges during the week commencing June 14.
Village of the Year administrator, Jo Simson says, 'The judges will be on the look out for vibrant, caring communities. Although it's important to care for the appearance of the village, this competition is more about how the people who live there care for one another and how they meet the challenges facing village life today.'
The entrants will learn their fate and pick up some of the prizes at the Village of the Year Awards Evening, hosted by County Council Chairman Bernard Lloyd on Thursday July 1 in County Hall. That will be followed by unveiling ceremonies in Hertfordshire Village of the Year East, Hertfordshire Village of the Year North and Hertfordshire Village of the Year West on Saturday 24 July. One of those three big prize-winners will be declared Hertfordshire Village of the Year 2010.
