Oompa Loompas and giant lollipops took over Abbot’s Hill School in Hemel Hempstead as its parents’ association held a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed ball in aid of the Hospice of St Francis
Organised by a committee headed by Ashfia Tough and Sonja Hutchinson, guests watched Dan Tien Theatre School students dance and sing as Willy Wonka’s little helpers, before drinks and dinner prepared by the school catering staff.
An auction and raffle raised £13,000 in addition to £850 raised by staff and pupils during a Roald Dahl-themed mufti day.
Headmistress Elizabeth Thomas said, ‘We are extremely grateful to Mrs Tough and Mrs Hutchinson, who together with their team of helpers worked tirelessly to organise a wonderful ball and I am thrilled that we raised such an impressive sum for the hospice.’
