The founder and MD of Leoro Jewellers in St Albans gives an insight into what he loves and has learnt
What are your biggest challenges? I think today’s biggest challenge is to adapt to fast changes and stay open minded while at the same time true to your values and the concept of your business. Another big challenge is to always stay ahead and try to find the next trends – to surprise and keep the same level of energy and love at all times.
What’s your motivation? I love beautiful things. It gives me great pleasure to identify talented designers and work with them to develop something which will be appreciated by others. I love art and used to paint from time to time, now I enjoy photography. The creative process of starting something small and developing it is a challenge which keeps me motivated and gives me a lot of pleasure. I don’t feel like I am going to work but rather do what I like at work! Creating these projects and evolving them, together with interesting people and clients creates great energy and fun. It is this fun and seeing ideas develop into reality after lots of hard work that keeps me motivated.
Most valuable business lessons? Although it’s important to listen to advice and to other opinions, at the end I think it is most important and always correct to trust your own feelings. The other lesson is never take partners.
Who is your business role model? Steve Jobs. For me he was a visionary and had the courage to go all the way with his vision. Doing so, he created an amazing DNA of excellence and also shaped our lives. His story is not only about the amazing success of Apple but about how he achieved it. The uncompromising search for perfection in design and technology together with the ability to understand, long before others, how the world will change and how his company could play a big part in this, is simply impressive.
