#TeamHerts

A service providing a quick and easy way to give your time, find volunteers, and do great things for Hertfordshire

Volunteering is an activity that not only benefits those you are helping, it also benefits the helper in many ways. You may wish to give something back to your local community or make a difference to the people around you or you might be looking to develop new skills, boost your CV or meet new people. So where do you go to find opportunities?

#TeamHerts Volunteering is a one-stop hub supporting more than 800 not-for-profit organisations across Hertfordshire. It helps these organisations find the public help to support the local community. #TeamHerts Volunteering also provides volunteers in Hertfordshire with a service to help them find the right voluntary opportunity to suit their needs. It is essentially a matching service – volunteer to organisation and organisation to volunteer.

Kat Shepherdson, project manager of the service, says, ‘#TeamHerts is about giving those interested in volunteering a stepping stone to access the information they require. Since launching in 2016 we have seen over 5,875 residents use our service in some way to access volunteer information.’

#TeamHerts Volunteering reaches out through a number of channels including an online database search, a flexible volunteering website, a volunteering e-newsletter, via social media (Facebook and Twitter) and at introduction to volunteering events.

The charities database lists lots of organisations that are looking to recruit volunteers. This provides contact details for organisations who use volunteers, so that if people are interested they can make direct contact to see if they have any positions available. People can search by district, activity and opportunity, to find the right type of organisation they would like to volunteer for.

The flexible volunteering website allows organisations to post one-off, short-term roles directly to the site. The site is open for people who want to volunteer, but don’t want to commit to a long-term role. The kind of roles advertised vary from gardening and painting to supporting events.

The monthly e-newsletter goes out to over 900 individuals who have signed up on the website stating they are interested in volunteering locally. #TeamHerts Volunteering features news on its events, most recent case studies, a blog and other relevant information. There is also a flexible volunteering newsletter, which goes out fortnightly to people interested in one-off roles.

#TeamHerts Volunteering also holds regular charity networking events, volunteer fairs around the county, and introduction to volunteering sessions which give potential volunteers all the information they need to find rewarding and fulfilling roles.
