Book lovers gathered at Letchworth’s iconic Spirella ballroom to celebrate the 50th birthday of the town’s much-loved David’s Bookshop.
More than 250 guests listened and took part in a debate on progress in the last 50 years, which featured Daily Mail columnist Peter Hitchens, social historian Jane Robinson and former programme director of the Hansard Scholars Programme Andrew Cook.
The debate was followed by toasts and tributes to the former owners, the Armitage family and current owners Paul and Liz Wallace, and culminated in a party with swing band Pink Champagne.
