Thousands of free tickets to the county’s top attractions are being given away for Herts Big Weekend 2019

Families in Hertfordshire have the chance to win tickets to a host of top attractions and fun-filled activities across the county when the Herts Big Weekend 2019 ballot opens on February 21.

Thousands of winning tickets will give admittance to participating venues for one weekend during English Tourism Week 2019. The hope of the organisers, Hertfordshire tourism service Visit Herts, is ticket winners will then spread the word about the attractions they have experienced with family and friends in the county and beyond.

Lana Crouch of Visit Herts said, ‘It sounds too good to be true right? But there’s no catch, just free tickets to top attractions for Herts residents – simple!

‘Herts residents will have the chance to enjoy a day out discovering and rediscovering some of the most fun, fascinating and fabulous things to see and do in the county.’

Here’s all you need to know about Herts Big Weekend 2019:

When is it?

Herts Big Weekend 2019 will take place on April 6-7, during English Tourism Week, run by VisitBritain. Herts Big Weekend was launched in 2016 to promote the county’s attractions and sights, and to encourage residents to discover how much there is to see and do in their county. The annual event is organised by Visit Herts.

Which attractions are taking part?

The weekend will see more than 50 attractions and related businesses across the county donating free tickets or experiences. Some of the county’s biggest attractions have signed up, giving residents plenty to choose from – with a select number of pairs or family tickets available for each.

Experiences include magical studio tours, close encounters for animal lovers, rounds of golf, family activities, stately homes, afternoon teas, historic houses and fascinating museums.

Just some of the attractions confirmed include Paradise Wildlife Park, Knebworth House and Gardens, Henry Moore Studio and Gardens, Hatfield House, the Natural History Museum at Tring, Alpaca Adventures, Hotel Cromwell, Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter, and Ventura Wildlife Park.

How do I win tickets?

Hertfordshire residents can apply for as many tickets as they like online at hertsbigweekend.co.uk when the ballot opens on Thursday February 21. The ballot will close on Sunday March 17.

What are the rules?

The ballot is only available to people living in Hertfordshire. This includes, but is not limited to, postcodes starting with AL and SG.

Every Hertfordshire resident aged 18 and over can apply for tickets to any of the attractions listed. Attractions that are already free to enter will be offering a range of extras such as guided tours, special gifts and refreshments.

From all the entries, two tickets per household will be allocated at random (although there are some family tickets available too).

How many times can I apply?

You can apply for as many tickets as you like. Last year nearly 33,000 bids were made for tickets, so make sure you bid for as many tickets as possible to be in with a chance of winning.

Anyone who signs up to the Visit Herts newsletter will get exclusive early access to the ballot.
