Tell us about your job

I am the owner and director of the kitchen furniture company Pure Kitchens, based in Spencer Street, St Albans. We specialise in the design and installation of contemporary and traditional kitchens. We source our products from the UK, Italy and Germany to ensure we get the best in the market. I am very proud of the product proposition we have at Pure Kitchens its fresh, current and high quality. We have just introduced the Nobilia brand to Pure Kitchens and we are really excited at the product offer.

What do you like most about your job?

Definitely the best thing about my job is getting to the end of the project where the customer is delighted with the end result it gives everyone at Pure Kitchens the utmost enjoyment. I set out from the start of the business to strive to do the very best by our customers.

Is there anything you dont like?

Paperwork. Im a product and customer person; admin sucks the life out of me!

What was your first job?

My first job was working on the fruit and veg section at Tesco, when Tesco was just an also-ran. I really enjoyed the banter between myself and customer, and there was a great team ethic in the store as well.

It was my first introduction to retail and I think it steered me toward the service sector.

What was your worst job?

Definitely a summer job picking tomatoes. Up at 4am straight to a hideous eight-hour stretch in a scorching hot greenhouse. All for less than 5 per hour. I have never liked tomatoes.

What are your educational qualifications?

Just O and A levels. I couldnt wait to start working and get some money into my pocket!

How did you get to your current position?

I have spent many years working for major home furnishing retailers starting as a department manager at Habitat, then working my way up to senior buying management. I have always enjoyed the development of product and the execution in store. I knew the kitchen market very well, and having tired of corporate life I decided to go for it and start my own business.

What one piece of advice would you like to pass on?

Always work with a close team of people you can rely on and trust its the only way to keep your customers delighted and the boss sane.
