Cancer Hair Care
The Stevenage based charity making cancer related hair loss ‘one less worry’
Cancer Hair Care is the UK's leading hair loss support charity and has helped many thousands since it began in 2011.
The charity was founded by a hairdresser from Stevenage, Jasmin Julia Gupta - aka The Hair Loss Coach - who has become a leading cancer treatment hair loss expert.
It offers free support to women and men of all ages, hair types and ethnicities. The charity understands that hair loss subjects such as scalp cooling (hair loss prevention), new hair growth, wigs and headscarves can all seem a mystery. Its expert and caring advice and emotional support helps people to feel confident through illness and into recovery.
As the only charity to offer clinics in NHS hospitals, Cancer Hair Care provides a range of free-of-charge services at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital in Enfield, Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, and UCLH children's hospital and Guy's Cancer Centre in London.
At each clinic, all of which can be attended by either dropping in or making an appointment, Cancer Hair Care's hair loss advisors and specialists have been trained to listen and impart information with care and sensitivity on a wide range of subjects, from planning hair loss and scalp cooling to trying on scarves and headwear.
They also offer one-to-one appointments for Head Start Sessions, which feature a range of free expert hair loss support, tutorials and services such as 'tea and chat', scalp cooling advice, free support packs, 'tie and try' headscarve sessions and make-up tips at their Caring Hair Studio clinics and salon mornings, which take place at the Caring Hair Studio in Stevenage Old Town.
The charity has a wide range of hair loss support resources, including a comprehensive website, knitted hair loss dollies and play packs that explain hair loss to children, as well as teenage services and campaigns including Hair Loss Friendly.
Jasmin says, 'Possible hair loss can have a devastating effect on someone who has cancer. When a woman loses her hair due to chemotherapy treatments, her confidence takes a huge plummet. It can often be a hugely traumatic experience and, left unsupported, she can experience both image anxiety and isolation. But it doesn't have to be this way - support is on hand.'
Cancer Hair Care's unique services span the entire hair loss journey and concentrate on all aspects of hair loss and hair loss prevention through to new hair growth into recovery, helping to make hair loss one less worry.
