Hertfordshire has many great restaurants serving healthy and sustainable foods and one of my favourites has recently been recognised nationally. It’s not just any award either. Lussmans Fish and Grill, which has outlets in St Albans, Hertford and Harpenden, won the People’s Favourite category in the Food Made Good Awards, the Sustainable Restaurant Association’s annual celebration of the UK’s ethical eateries.

Ethically-sourced British produce has always been intrinsic to founder Andrej Lussman’s philosophy. He has been using seasonal ingredients for years and really cares about provenance. It’s my all time fave restaurant anywhere in the UK – you’ll find me there regularly, usually with a notebook, as it’s the perfect place for a leisurely lunch writing columns like these – away from the hustle and bustle of the home office!

Make a note

I’m carrying the sustainability theme on to my writing materials too – bring on the great Herts company 4Roffice (4roffice.co.uk) which provides brilliant eco and sustainable options from office furniture to gardening equipment and much more besides. I’m currently loving its 100 per cent recycled notebooks (as already said, you’ll see me in Lussmans scribbling in mine!). The company also supplies eco cleaning materials to schools and has an innovative Eco Turtle ‘filling station’ which refills empty bottles that encourages children to learn about recycling. Feel Good retreat

Beat a retreat and enjoy a rejuvenating experience at the Feel Good Woman event from June 3-5 at the fabulous 15th century Buckden Towers over the border in St Neots in Cambs. Enjoy specially designed detox meals, change your mindset, enjoy gentle yoga, relaxation and therapeutic sessions and treatments such as reiki, hot stone massage, kinesiology and reflexology. It’s hosted by Herts-based nutritional therapist and fitness instructor Gwen Warren and I will be a guest speaker on Friday June 3. See bitingfit.co.uk for more.
