It’s that time of year again when the exercise regime starts to lose its appeal. Sedentary habits start to kick in leaving you back at square one. So here are some tips to help you stay motivated.

Go back to the drawing board and create a new schedule. Aim to exercise at least three times a week and give this special time you have put aside a positive name like ‘be good to yourself hour’. This will help put you in the right frame of mind, it’s time for you, after all.

Set a realistic goal, something to aim towards. For example, enlist in a charity event like Race for Life. This is even more effective if you buddy up with friends or family so you can motivate each other.

Remind yourself what a great example you are setting to your family. Children do what they see adults doing. It gives them the opportunity and inspiration to follow your lead and want to be more active.

Make sure you aren’t undoing your hard work by over eating. It all boils down to a simple equation: burn off more than you take in, and keep it healthy.

Finally, make exercise fun by choosing things you enjoy doing. There is no point grumbling through a workout for the sake of it. If you enjoy it you will put in more effort – the more energy you put in, the more you get out.
